Murshidibad

We are now in Murshidibad, an area north of Kolkata (4 hours by train). This is where the freeset business incubator is based.

The incubator has been set up to assist new businesses aiming to provide alternative employment to women who may otherwise be forced to sell their bodies in order to provide for family. Some land has already been purchased for new freedom businesses, and ideas for businesses are being developed. We are very excited to see the progress on these projects. Those of you who have supported our quizzes raising funds for these projects... thank you! It is great to be able to stand on the land where these projects are happening! We have heard a bit about freeset fabrics - a business which will be based up here. They are initially going to be making high-end wool/cotton/silk scarves.

Here are some photos from the near the beautiful village of Valkundi, where freeset fabrics will be:

We went on a day trip to another village. Here we spent some time with the family of an amazing freeset woman. They very kindly hosted us for lunch - delicious rice, dal and curry. Have never eaten so much rice before, even though we asked for small portions.

There were some beautiful mud huts, some good cha (tea), lovely welcoming locals, and it was good to be away from all the dust and traffic noise.

Tim loves goats so here is a photo of one we met.

Everywhere we go, Zoe attracts many locals. She smiles at everyone. We have now got quite an impressive list of places I've had to feed her and places we've had to change her.

A lovely woman, Janet, gave Zoe her first hair cut. Just the fringe to keep her hair out of her eyes.

Here are some photos from the lake very close to where we are staying.

Tim is now back in New Zealand ... Look after him for me! We're being well looked after here.
